Lesson 2: Formal Presentations & Debates

발표와 토론

Speaking to an Audience

Speaking formally in a presentation or debate requires more than just the `-(스)ㅂ니다` formal speech level. It requires specific phrases to structure your argument, guide your audience, and politely disagree.

This lesson will give you the key phrases you need to sound professional and persuasive.

Part 1: Key Presentation Phrases

Introducing Your Topic

`지금부터... -에 대해 발표를 시작하겠습니다.`

(jigeum-buteo... -e daehae balpyo-reul shijak-hagesseumnida.)

"From now, I will begin my presentation about..."

Giving an Overview

`먼저... -에 대해 말씀드리고, 다음으로... -을/를 설명하겠습니다.`

(meonjeo... -e daehae malsseum-deurigo, da-eum-euro... -eul/reul seolmyeong-hagesseumnida.)

"First I will speak about..., and next I will explain..."

Concluding

`이상으로 발표를 마치겠습니다. 들어주셔서 감사합니다.`

(isang-euro balpyo-reul machigesseumnida. deureo-jushyeoseo gamsahamnida.)

"With this, I will conclude my presentation. Thank you for listening."

Part 2: Key Debate Phrases

Stating Your Opinion

`제 생각에는... -(ㄴ/는)다고 생각합니다.`

(je saeng-gag-eneun... -(n/neun)dago saeng-gak-hamnida.)

"In my opinion, I think that..."

Agreeing

`...-의 의견에 전적으로 동의합니다.`

(...-ui uigyeon-e jeonjeog-euro dong-ui-hamnida.)

"I completely agree with the opinion of..."

Politely Disagreeing

`좋은 의견입니다만, 제 생각은 조금 다릅니다.`

(jo-eun uigyeon-imnida-man, je saeng-gag-eun jogeum dareumnida.)

"That is a good opinion, but my thought is a little different."

Coming Up Next...

In our next lesson, we'll cover the basics of **Academic Writing**, including the special "written" verb forms and how to structure a formal essay or report.
